We are proud to publish another piece by an advanced student! Alejandro Vidal has been at Instituto Estelar Bilingüe for a few months, and he is an outstanding student with impressive speaking skills. Here he writes about what it takes to be successful in owning his own business.
My name is Alejandro Vidal. I have been the owner of an automobile parts shop in Liberia’s downtown since 2005. I have been in business for 6 years and I hope to keep going for a long time. I have to say that it has been a really nice experience and a great challenge. After all these years I would like to say that anyone can do anything as long as they follow some rules or tips. In my opinion, three keys to success as an owner of an automobile shop are being able to work long hours, offering the best service to the clients, and keeping in touch with customers every day.
When you open your own business it is important to forget how long you would have been at work during the day in a normal job. You should be able to work more than 8 hours per day and maybe you will get extra payment. Maybe this sounds bad but it isn’t because you are doing it for yourself. In addition you can help other people by giving them a job.
I have realized when you give a good service the customer will probably come back. Also it is likely the customer will tell others good things about you. In addition clients usually say, “I would prefer to pay a high price for a good service than pay a low price for a bad service.”
The third key to success is to keep in touch with clients every day. It’s important to make calls and find out what they need during the day. Another thing you should do is visit the mechanic directly during the mornings or afternoons.
In conclusion, I talked about three keys to success, but they aren’t the only factors for success. For example, it is also important to be a positive person, be honest, and never forget that God is our best coworker.
