Grandparent Club at Instituto Estelar Bilingüe

We are very happy to announce that we finally have a Grandparent Club!

With the purpose of helping the older generation of our Liberian community, we have tried for over a year to organize a weekly event, called the Grandparent Club, where volunteers go to the local rest home to visit the residents there, but it hasn’t worked out…until now!

Thanks to one of our student’s moms, we found out about a non-profit organization called “Tesoros de ayer y hoy” (Treasures of yesterday and today), who organizes a weekly meeting for retired Costa Ricans. In the meeting, they play games, do fun activities, and organize day trips to nearby hot springs, rivers, mountains…and even the local rest home. The club provides a much-appreciated excuse for its members (a group of 15-30) to get out and connect with other people.

When we heard about this group and the fact that they no longer had a place to meet every week, we immediately offered our institute as their new home. This way we can get involved — students and staff can help with the activities and make new friends with these very special people — without having to organize a trip to the local rest home (although we’d still like to do that eventually).

Anyone who is free on Wednesdays from 1 to 3pm is more than welcome to come to Instituto Estelar Bilingüe and participate!
