We had our second annual Thanksgiving feast last Friday, November 23, and approximately 90 people – students, family, and friends – came! All of the guests contributed food or drink, and the English teachers (all from the U.S.), made traditional Thanksgiving dishes. There was plenty of food for all, although the kids in attendance mostly just wanted pizza.
After the delicious dinner and dessert, we celebrated a graduation ceremony for 60 English students of all ages and levels.
In keeping with tradition established last year, we had a piñata for the kids, only this year the piñata was hand-made by two very talented students who are also sisters. Another English student, shown here, filled the piñata with candy. What a team!
We finished the exciting night with a raffle to raise money for Manos Abiertas, a non-profit organization in Liberia that does a special Christmas activity (in addition to year-round programs) in a very poor neighborhood on the outskirts of Liberia. The five winners will get a free, one-hour English class with one of our stellar teachers!
